The kind of guy I’m interested in should not just have oodles of time to squander on me, when he barely knows me. When we’re in a relationship, then he should make me a priority, but before that point in time, he should have a life with plenty of places to be. Nor should he be the sort of person who just jumps in, with both feet, with a person he barely knows.

Yes, but I don’t use the term too much interest in my own life because interest is just that, interest. I also don’t think one can love someone too much. If someone’s behavior is clingy, then that’s not stemming from interest, it’s from desperation, as you noted. It can also be that they have a desire to control, in which case they will attempt to monopolize your time. In that case, I wouldn’t label that “too interested.” I would just label it as “needy” and “demanding.”
